FAQ

What is a beta version?show more

A beta version of a website is still under development. It is therefore somewhat incomplete and may contain bugs. In our case, this is an open beta, which means that anyone can use the site, report bugs and provide comments and criticism.

What is Gramolex?show more

Gramolex is a free website for those who want to improve their Swedish. With the help of our customised, tailor-made games, exercises and articles, you can expand your vocabulary and enhance your grammatical skills. You can also learn new things about Sweden and Swedish culture based on what interests you the most.

How did the project come about?show more

Gramolex is a one-man project. Its content, structure, layout have all been created by me: Aron. I am a language teacher, linguist and web programmer. With over fifteen years of experience as a Swedish teacher, I decided to create a website that offers a new approach to language learning.

Why is it called Gramolex?show more

Linguistic competence can be divided into two categories. Certain things have to be memorised (lexical knowledge) while others have to be absorbed and understood (grammar).

The name GRAMoLEX thus reflects what constitutes the core of language learning, i.e. grammatical skills and lexical knowledge.

Is it for free?show more

Yes, it is. It is free to sign up and use the website. You even get one free introductory lesson with each of our teachers. We charge for subsequent lessons according to our pricing policy.

Can I use the site without taking lessons?show more

Yes, absolutely. However, if you find that you get stuck or have difficulty moving on, it's a good idea to take a few lessons and then continue using the site on your own until you get stuck again.

Due to the website's built-in translator, Gramolex is easily accessible to anyone with a firm basic knowledge of Swedish (equivalent to level A2, B1 and above). However, if you are a beginner or unsure of your grammar skills, it may be a good idea to contact us (gramolex.vlog@gmail.com) and start taking lessons.

It goes without saying that everyone is welcome to take lessons - there is always room for improvement, but those with a very good knowledge of Swedish probably do not need more than a few occasional sessions.

How does the website translate?show more

Once logged in, you can (double) click on any word on the page and the corresponding definition will appear along with a translation. You can select your preferred target language on your profile page.

Currently, you can choose between English, Polish, Russian, German and Hungarian. Why these five? Well, the reason is that I happen to speak these five languages.

What is the point of collecting lingonberries?show more

Lingonberries are Gramolex's virtual currency that can be obtained by solving various exercises. The berries can be spent on customised learning resources that you can download in PDF format.

You can also use your lingonberries to get a discount on the lessons you book.

You have to be active on the site to keep the lingonberries you have earned. After three days of inactivity, five of your lingonberries will be confiscated daily (until you log in again).

What types of lessons can I take?show more

The lessons take place on Gramolex's own learning platform with chat and video conference. As a first step you receive a completely free, personalised introductory lesson and then it's up to you to decide how to proceed.

You can choose to continue with individual lessons that you book on the website. Or you can contact us by email (gramolex.vlog@gmail.com) and sign up for group lessons (with two or three participants). Group learners purchase a course of ten lessons at a time (on top of which you get an additional bonus lesson).

Is there a package price? Of course, there is! If you make a payment equivalent to 10 lessons, you get one free lesson. That is the reason why group learners eventually take courses of 11 lessons (10 + 1).

How can I support the project?show more

To start with, you can create an account and explore the site. Then, feel free to send a message to Gramolex (gramolex.vlog@gmail.com) with any suggestions or observations you might have. I am grateful for your feedback.

And of course, you are welcome to book lessons and spread the word that Gramolex will soon be launched for real.
